MetalLB
Scope
MetalLB is the bare-metal LoadBalancer implementation used by the TazLab cluster.
Current Synthesis
MetalLB assigns external IPs to Kubernetes LoadBalancer services in environments without a cloud provider load balancer. In TazLab it is part of the cluster networking foundation.
Why It Matters
It gives the cluster stable service IPs for dashboards, databases, and other exposed workloads.
Key Characteristics
- Layer 2 and BGP modes
- IP pool allocation
- ARP/NDP announcement for bare-metal networks
- works with Talos cluster networking and Proxmox-backed infrastructure
Relationships
- used by tazlab-k8s
- central to TazLab Infrastructure Tech Stack
- summarized in Tailscale and Networking Research
